Treasuring Our Connection with People
Handmade Calendar Project
In our goal to be a company that prioritizes connection with people, Suzuki Herb Laboratory has engaged in various initiatives over the years.
We have community activities and programs such as cleaning areas around the company building, maintaining flower beds, donating flowers and herb seedlings to nearby schools, and providing opportunities for children to learn about our work.
This time, we would like to talk about helping people with disabilities find work through the sales of handmade calendars.
At Suzuki Herb Laboratory, we hope to help people with disabilities find work in the community and have a purpose in life, by supporting the non-profit organization Matsubokkuri (Authorized) Disabled Persons Employment Support Center Workable Hope.
The NPO Matsubokkuri conducts consultation support and employment support for disabled individuals to help them become independent.
As a part of this initiative, they sell calendars with herb illustrations handmade by disabled persons at Matsubokkuri every year (only sold in Japan).
Everything is done by hand, starting from recycling milk cartons to get the paper pulp used to make the calendar, all the way to printing and cutting.
The community at Matsubokkuri depict the herb illustrations on the calendar using the "Kimiko" art method while putting their heart in each stroke, making it a soul-stirring item.
The calendars also show the importance of taking good care of things and respecting each other's individuality.
The community at Matsubokkuri put a lot of effort into making the calendars. They do everything, including printing, cutting, and binding!
We want to continue giving importance to our connection with the community and people. We will do so by continuing to make strides with what we can do and being more focused on each initiative we take, no matter how small, to realize our goal.
